Predictability at its core

S3 object storage with predictable pricing

A common challenge with object storage services is that it can be hard to predict the final bill. Many providers usually charge for stored data, as well as transfer and IOPS.

We have chosen to do it the simple way. We only charge for stored data, per GB and month. Use our S3 service together with our other services, for example PaaS or Public Cloud, and no transfer charge is applied.

This is object storaging:

Object storaging is a method for storing and managing data in the form of objects.  It is a common method used in cloud storage solutions and this is how it works:

1. Data structure – In object storaging systems data is organised in objects. One object can be the data in itself, a unique identifier (usually an URL or a key) and metadata that describes the object (ex. size, type, creation date).

2. Storage – Whe data is up loaded to the object storage system it is broken down into smaller pieces, known as chunks or shards. These pieces kan then be distributed and stored in several pysical units for redundancy and scalability.

3. Key based access – Every object is assigned one unique key that is used to identify and obtain objects. The key is usualy a combination of alphabetical letters, numbers and special signs. Each combination is unique to the storage system.

4. API-calls – To store, recive and manage objects, users and applications use an API (Application Programming Interface)  which is provided through the object storaging system. Through the API-call a user can interact with objects in different ways, including uploading, reciving, updating and deleting objects.

5. Sclability and sustainability – The object storaging system is designed to be scalabal and sustainable. This means that they can manage large amounts of data and that the data is redundantly stored in several units and geographical locations to insure sustainability and availability.

By using object storaging users and rganisations get a flexible, scalable and sustainable method for storing and managing data in the cloud. That is why it has become a popular solution for everything from webb site files and backups, to large scale data management systems and IoT-applications.
